Immigration Issues
The time Has Come...
for us Latinos to start doing things ourselves and not waiting for the president or the congress to decide what's best for us. We must endorse and place Latino leaders in goverment places. Not airheads like Villaraigosa or Gonzalez. One was so horny he couldn't keep his fly up and the other one was uncapable of playing with the big-white boys.
We must choose our leaders extremely careful. Not selfish ones that only care about themselves and their animalistic desires. Leaders with great convictions and high empathy for his/her fellowman.
We are a higly and strong economical power in this country and we should and have to use it. We have to stop our "let others do and think for us" mentality.
Turn off your Spanish channels... is Arnold right?
How right (or wrong) is Gov. Schwarzenegger when he advised the Hispanic population to "turn off the Spanish television set. It's that simple. You've got to learn English."?
I mean, yes, there is some hypocrisy there, considering that he is also eager to hablar Español when election-time rolls around. In his re-election bid last year, the governor not only ran ads in Spanish but was interviewed frequently on Spanish-language television and radio and his website is also available in Spanish.
But all that is politics. What doesn't mean that the advice is not a good one.
The Great Wall of Mexico is half a reality
Ok, the wall for the border with Mexico is half a reality as it has been "approved"...
I would really like to know how many people believe this is going to work, no matter your political standing on illegal immigration.
In my case for example, I understand that as it is is a problem, but I also believe that is a problem because the US treats all the ones that want to immigrate legally so bad and with such a bureaucracy and with such little common sense, that the country is also reaping what we sow.
But even when I think is a problem to solve and to stop, I truly believe that the wall is just a really bad bad bad idea. It will take a lot of money and effort and as we say in Spanish, "hecha la ley, hecha la trampa" (as you got the law, you got the cheating)
Would the new President of Mexico be able to do something about immigration?
With such a narrow victory would the new President of Mexico be able to do something about immigration? I can't help but think that Mexico elections will not favor anyone with such a tight result...
A day without an immigrant, is it a good idea?
As a relatively new immigrant, I still have no position on the proposed boycott, but as I read and hear more about the issue, my feelings are against it even when I do believe that an humanitarian and intelligent solution should be given to the problem of illegal immigration.
So why I am tending to say "no" to the boycott? because I feel is not an intelligent measure. The previous demonstrations were not well organized, and the mixed messages sent through flags and signs talking about Aztlan, are triggering (with some reason) the worst reaction among non-hispanics (and even between hispanics) by making this issue an issue about "being with me or against me" what is never an intelligent position.
Latino support of Immigration Controls
I am a Latina graduate student writing a paper about Latino support of immigration controls. I would like to hear from Latinos who support immigration controls. It would be very helpful if you could explain WHY you support immigration controls. I would also be interested to know if there are Latinos who support or who have participated in Minutemen border patrols. Thanks very much for any and all feedback!

The Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act
This proposed law (see more about it here) seems to be founded in some common myths about immigration . What do you think? How do you think immigration should be managed?
HELP
My name is Dearra Johnson and I am a student at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I hope to attend law school and one day practice immigration law. My research group and I are working in and with activists in the town of Lexington, Nebraska to learn about changes in immigration policy and how it has affected this small Nebraska town with a high percentage of Hispanic population. St. Ann's Catholic Church has assisted us by allowing us to talk to members of its congregation about the obstacles they have overcome and are still dealing with. In return, we would like to have a workshop to help them in any way possible. They marked us on the calender for July 16th and 17th. I know this is short notice, but is there any way anyone could be of assistance? Thank you kindly for your time!

Illegal Immigration FILM PROJECT
I am an independent filmmaker making a film dealing with immigration into the United States from Mexico. I am looking for individuals who have actually made the difficult trek north specifically through the unforgiving Sonoran desert. I will not exploit the individual storylines, just attempt to depict a compassionate point of view towards the actual physical events. Complete anonymity would be a priority if desired. If you know of anyone who would be interested in being part of such a project and presently live in the Los Angeles area, please contact me at:
