The University Scholars Program is available to incoming undergraduate, graduate and professional students. You must demonstrate financial need, the ability to explore new academic horizons, an excitement for original research, collaborative thinking and innovative scholarship to be eligible for this four-year award. U.S. citizenship is also required.

INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE APPLICANTS:
Eleven Churchill Scholarships, tenable for one year, are awarded annually for graduate study in engineering, mathematics, and that natural and physical sciences at Churchill College, Cambridge University.

ELIGIBILITY/SELECTION:
An applicant for nomination by the Duke Churchill Committee must be a U.S. citizen enrolled at Duke University or a recent graduate enrolled at one of the other participating colleges and universities. Eligibility to take up the scholarship requires that the candidate be between the ages of 19 and 26, hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a US college, and not have attained a doctorate.

The criteria for selection include:
(1) achievement in academic work as indicated by course grades,
(2) scores on the Graduate Record Examination "GRE",
(3) capacity for original, creative work as shown by special recognitions or letters of references,
(4) character, adaptability, a demonstrated concern for critical problems of society, and
(5) good health. Duke may nominate up to two students each year for consideration by the Churchill Foundation as scholars.

VALUE OF THE AWARD:
The scholarship covers all tuition and fees and includes a living allowance will be paid in pounds sterling, either 6,400 or 7,500 depending upon the length of the course of study. In addition there is a travel grant of $500. In all, the Churchill Scholarship, at current rates of exchange, is worth between $31,000 and $36,000, depending on the course of study.
