Presidential Classroom Scholars Program is an opportunity for students with special interests in government and public policy to go behind the scenes of the nation's capital. This program investigates how social, economic and foreign policy is defined and how the three branches of government interact. This focused view of the federal government gives PC Scholars direct access to national leaders and often inspires students to seek careers in public service.

This program is important to all students who want to refine their critical thinking and leadership capabilities. Students research, draft and present a report that summarizes the pros, cons and possible issues to a current issue. The current issues report allows them to interact with Washington insiders, engage in team-building activities and enhance negotiation skills. Each year Newsweek Education Program chooses one student report to be published and distributed nationally.

Seminar topics can include Power in Washington, Role of the Federal Agency, Role of the Judiciary, National Defense Policy, U.S. Foreign Policy, Issues Facing America: View from Congress, Role of the Media in a Democracy, Life of a Lobbyist and Leadership and You.

Our mission is to prepare young leaders for responsible citizenship and provide outstanding high school students the chance to explore the political process firsthand. Every year, students travel to Washington, D.C., from the United States and abroad, to witness the federal government at work through Presidential Classroom. More than 115,000 scholars have passed through Presidential Classroom’s doors since 1968.
