Tuesday June 10th, NSHP hosted their 2008 Atlanta Professional Career Fair at the Cobb Galleria Centre. The event allowed more than 600 job seekers the opportunity to meet with over 25 employers, looking to hire diverse and bilingual professionals. Companies such as American Tower Corporation, Newell Rubbermaid, and Walmart were among the exhibitors.

The Pew Hispanic Center today released Latino Labor Report, 2008: Construction Reverses Job Growth for Latinos.The report finds the economic downturn having a disproportionate impact on Hispanic workers. From an historic low in late 2006, the unemployment rate for Latinos rose sharply in 2007 and currently stands well above the rate for non-Latinos.Immigrant Hispanics, especially Mexican immigrants and recent arrivals, have been hurt the most by the slump in the construction industry.

In light of a lack of diversity exacerbating a current and projected nationwide nursing shortage, a new study by the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute examines why there’s a shortage of Hispanic nurses and what we can do about it.

On April 24th, NSHP hosted our first Job Fair of the year in NYC. The event was held at the Metropolitan Pavilion from 10 am to 3 pm and more than 1200 candidates were there. With over 30 employers and exhibitors attending, job seekers had the opportunity to interview with top companies seeking diversity and bilingual candidates for hundreds of professional positions.
