Sr. Product Development Engineer

Job Description

This position will identify opportunities for development of new products and design improvements for existing products. The role will insure the quality, cost, and on time delivery of new products to the market. Responsibilities include working with the development team to establish product plans based on market trends, and vendor development of new products and processes.

DUTIES:
• Develop product designs from design staff concepts using computer-aided design (preferably Pro Engineer).
• Evaluate and optimize product concepts for mechanical function (e.g., fit, function, interference, stacking, nesting, etc), manufacturability, packaging and material handling.
• Generate finalized engineering product drawings with critical dimensions, performance specifications, and quality specifications (standards and test procedures).
• Develop finite element models for flow and structural analysis.
• Ensures that new products function properly, meet specifications, and timing objectives.
• Generate product prototypes and perform product testing for internal evaluation and consumer feedback.
• Develop and evaluate cost analysis for new and modified product concepts from design through production launch to maximize product value.
• Plan and coordinate new product development as part of cross-function development team.
• Implement new products from mold/die shake-out/qualification through first production run (launch).
• Provides technical support in solving product quality problems with existing products.
• Work on special projects as assigned such as evaluating competitive product, new processes and technologies.

Job Requirements

• Bachelors/University Degree required in Engineering/Science (Mechanical Engineering, Plastic Engineering, or Material Science)
• 6-12 years product development experience
• Gear design experience preferred
• Design engineering experience with computer aided design systems preferably ProE and AutoCad
• Knowledge of plastic, metal, and/or wood production processing and implication on product design.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Plastics and Blow Molding experience
